Cesare, a young musicology student attends the screening of an archival video presented by a strange professor. As the video moves forward cesare is more and more entranced by the thoughts and philosophies presented by the speaker. Silvia, his classmate, witnesses Cesar’s metamorphoses, who finds himself irresistibly pulled toward a mysterious castle haunted by the ghost of an old man.

Chemical Somnia
A cross-continental collaboration between filmmaker Scott Portingale and composer Gorkem Sen. The film transports the viewer into chemical dimensions, exploring phase transition, fluid dynamics, and chemical reactions. Timelapse and high-speed photography were used on a macro scale to capture these elemental relationships in less than a square inch area on a petri dish. Uniquely resounding original music preformed by Gorkem Sen on an instrument he invented, the yaybahar.

CHS의 음악은 언제나 어딘가를 향해있다.
그들의 음악을 들을 때면,
때론 땡볕이 내리쬐는 드넓은 백사장이었다가, 때론 발리의 오래된 뒷골목이 된다.
지금 우리가 존재하는 이곳이 아닌
그 어딘가로 떠나는 여정이, 영화 같은 서사와 함께 펼쳐진다.
여름의 뜨거움과 푸른 바다의 시원함.
긴 겨울과 찰나 같은 봄을 지나, 오랜 기다림 끝에 만나는 눈부신 날들.
껍데기를 모두 벗어던지고 온전히 나를 드러낼 수 있는, 그런 바다.
그들이 연주하는 그 계절의 바다는 마치 오랫동안 꿈꾸고 그리워했던 유토피아인 듯하다.

그렇게 치열하게 ‘여름’을, ‘바다’를 부르짖던 그들이 불현듯 ‘HOME’을 노래하는 것은 왜일까?
떠나온 이들에게 있어 ‘고향’은 언제나 특별한 감정들을 선사한다.
오랜 시간이 지나도, 그 낯선 도시는
여전히 익숙한 공기와 바람, 그리고 이제는 흐릿해진 기억들로 가득하다.
반겨주는 이 없는 그곳이
현실을 뒤로한 채 언젠가 돌아가고픈.
한 번도 만난 적 없는 ‘이상향’의 기억으로 존재하는 것이다.
그런 의미에서 CHS에게 ‘HOME’은 곧 ‘여름’, 그리고 ‘바다’이다.
그들이 음악과 함게 향하던 그 ‘유토피아’가 바로 우리가 돌아가고픈 ‘고향’인 것이다.
그곳은 한 번도 가본적 없지만 우리 모두의 기억 속에 존재하고,
그곳엔 한 번도 만나지 못했던 그 누군가가 우리를 기다리고 있다.
그렇게 그들은 지나간 ‘여름’에 따뜻한 작별의 인사를 건네고
다시 만날 ‘바다’에 즐거운 재회의 인사를 전한다.

CHS's music always goes somewhere.
When we listen to their music,
Sometimes it is a wide sandy beach with the scorching sun,
but sometimes it becomes an old street in Bali. not where we are now.
The journey to somewhere is shown with a cinematic narrative.
The heat of summer and the coolness of the blue sea.
After a long winter and a fleeting spring, dazzling days meet after a long wait.
A sea like that where you can throw off all your shells and fully expose yourself.
The sea they play in that season seems to be the utopia they have long dreamed of and longed for.

Why are they suddenly singing 'HOME', who were chanting 'summer' and 'sea' so fiercely?
For those who have left, 'hometown' always presents special emotions.
Even after a long time, that strange city
It is still full of familiar air and wind, and memories that have now faded.
A place where no one welcomes you
We want to leave reality behind and go back someday...
It exists as a memory of a 'utopia' that has never been met.
In that sense, for CHS, 'HOME' is 'the summer' and 'the sea'.
The 'utopia' they went to with their music is the 'hometown' we want to return to.
We've never been there, but it's there in our memories,
There is someone waiting for us that we have never met.
So they said a warm goodbye to the past 'summer'
Sending greetings from a pleasant reunion to the ‘sea’, where we will meet again.

Panoply93.6K viewsThe psychological condition Derealisation is best described as a subjective episode relating specifically to a person's perception of the world around them.
It often causes those suffering from the condition to regard their surroundings as unreal, distant and distorted or in some way falsified.
It is theorised that Derealisation may affect everyone at least once in their lifetime, with a low percentage of the population possibly experiencing symptoms on a more serious and sustained level.
The idea for this piece came in the aftermath of the COVID19 pandemic which isolated and fundamentally changed so many people's lives forever. The constant cycle of negative news and the strict social distancing measures combined to create a dissociative, mass-malaise. This in turn left many feeling disconnected from their everyday lives and the people around them - including members of our own team here at Panoply.
This film sets out to be a visual exploration of this phenomena.

FINDING HETCH HETCHY: The Hidden Yosemite
Yosemite Valley is well-known as the epicenter of American climbing. Its sister valley to the north has long been left in the shadows of Yosemite’s reputation. The Hetch Hetchy Valley, similarly home to towering granite walls and the majestic beauty for which the Sierra is known, stays well out of the limelight despite being part of Yosemite National Park as a result of San Francisco's controversial dam and reservoir that covers the valley floor.
Timmy O’Neill had spent three decades scaling the monoliths in Yosemite Valley but, like so many climbers in the park, had never visited nearby Hetch Hetchy. As it follows Timmy and Lucho, Finding Hetch Hetchy shows breathtaking views of the canyon and the excellent opportunities for climbers while explaining the opportunity to relocate Hetch Hetchy’s namesake reservoir and restore the valley below to its natural beauty.

We traveled to Mauritania in search of stunning landscapes and beautiful colors, but what we discovered there was something absolutely magical.
Mauritania revealed itself to us like a symphony of nature's elements. When we experienced the raw power of the earth, the gentle touch of the wind, the captivating dance of fire, and soothing embrace of water, it felt like there was an invisible force, a fifth element, giving meaning to everything that surrounded us.
Among the calm sand dunes, we met people who found their peace amidst the shifting sands, while others, along the shore, were braving the ocean. And in between, the wondrous Eye of the Sahara stood as a silent witness. Like a celestial watching over the ever-changing life amid the timeless dunes, quietly keeping the secrets of the past.
Immersed in the nature of Mauritania, we felt wonder and connection to the timeless history.

Under the Skin SHORT FILM
Three friends are training for a synchronised swimming competition, executing rhythmic turns in the water in the same unison with which they bully other girls in the changing room. Yet beneath the surface, turmoil is brewing. Gestures and glances exchanged in atmospheric scenes gradually condense into a narrative of intrigue and jealousy, the young athletes‘ forced competition-ready smiles starkly emblematic of their friendships.

Tre amici si stanno allenando per una gara di nuoto sincronizzato, eseguendo giri ritmici nell'acqua allo stesso tempo con cui maltrattano le altre ragazze nello spogliatoio. Eppure, sotto la superficie, si sta preparando il tumulto. Angela Charles shares the challenges of losing her sight as a visual
artist, and her experience of ‘coming out’ to everyone after years of
hiding it. Multiple voices weave narration and description: Angela’s
iPhone, a philosophising Audio Describer, and her mentor, the artist
Bedwyr Williams.
The film explores ideas of seeing, and questions our preconceptions in asking us, What are you looking at?

BIO
Liberty Smith is a British filmmaker, born and raised in London then Cornwall, now based in Bristol.
After a decade with independent production companies creating broadcast
documentaries for a range of channels including the BBC, Channel 4, SKY
and National Geographic, as well as commercial work, Liberty became a
freelance filmmaker.
Making 'What Are You Looking At?' with Angela was a turning point in the
way Liberty worked and her approach to creative documentary filmmaking.
