Nicola Napolitano

Nicola Napolitano, detto il Caprariello (Nola, 28 febbraio 1838 – Nola, 10 settembre 1863), è stato un brigante italiano attivo nell'Avellinese. Il suo soprannome deriva dal suo mestiere di pastore di capre.

Biografia

Nato a Nola il 28 febbraio 1838 dai contadini Sabato e Carmela di Napoli, e privo d'istruzione, nel 1861 fu chiamato alla leva militare istituita dal neonato Regno d'Italia.
Renitente, fu arrestato e arruolato a forza, ma disertò quasi immediatamente, unendosi alla formazione brigantesca guidata dai fratelli nolani La Gala, presso la quale assunse un ruolo preminente, segnalandosi per energia e ferocia, sino al punto, nel corso del 1862, di costituire e guidare una sua propria banda.
Arrestato a seguito di un conflitto a fuoco ai primi di settembre del 1863, fu fucilato nella nativa Nola il 10 dello stesso mese.

Nicola Napolitano (February 28, 1838 – September 10, 1863), also known by the nickname Caprariello, a nickname derived from his activity of goat shepherd, was born in Nola from the peasants Sabato and Carmela from Naples. Illiterate, having never attended school, he was recruited in 1861 in the military service established by the newborn Kingdom of Italy.
Disobedient, he was arrested and forced to attend military service, but deserted almost immediately, joining the brigands led by the La Gala brothers from Nola, where he soon played an important role, gaining a reputation for his fierceness and strength, to the point of being able to put together and lead his own brigand band during 1862.
Arrested after a shooting fight at the beginning of September 1863, he was executed by shooting in his birth city, Nola, on the 10th of that same month.
