Joseph, giovane ed ingenuo agente di polizia, si innamora di Carmen, una avvenente prostituta arrestata per un piccolo furto, e ne agevola la fuga. Scontata la dura punizione inflittagli dai suoi superiori, Joseph incontra nuovamente la ragazza e ne diviene l'amante. Nonostante le promesse di fedeltà, Carmen non intende però rinunciare ai lauti guadagni che la sua turpe attività le consente; Joseph, folle di gelosia, uccide il capo della polizia da lui sorpreso in intimo colloquio con la ragazza e si rifugia con essa in una villetta isolata.Pur di non perdere Carmen, Joseph si è ormai assoggettato a dividerla con altri uomini, ma allorché la ragazza lo abbandona per andare a convivere con un cantante di successo, il giovane la insegue e dopo avere invano tentato di farla desistere dal suo proposito, la uccide.
