Egyptian - Plaque with a Dancing Dwarf with Large Phallus - Walters
Dwarfs played an important role in Egyptian society. Dwarfism-a genetic condition characterized by unusually short stature and shortened limbs-is frequently represented in Egyptian tomb reliefs and statues, and the remains of dwarfs have been found in tombs associated with the royal cemeteries. Dwarfs held important positions in the administration of the ancient Egyptian government, and they also worked as jewelers, performed in special rituals (in which they were called "god's dancers"), or served as midwives. Some were believed, because of their unusual appearance, to have supernatural powers and a special relation to the gods. The dancing posture and the oversized phallus of this dwarf-figure should secure virility and male potency for the owner in this life as well as the afterlife.

A depiction of a bust discovered in 1714 in the Southbroom Hoard near Devizes, Wiltshire, from the figures decorating the margins of Moll's map of "Hamp Shire" (Hampshire), the eighth in his Set of Fifty New and Correct Maps of England and Wales... The figure was actually part of the Southbroom Hoard discovered near Devizes, Wiltshire, in 1714 but placed on the Hampshire map for want of room. Moll copied the figure's appearance and lack of identification from Musgrave's 1719 account of the hoard. This statue is now lost, while others from the hoard are held by the British Museum. Musgrave identified it only as Figure 19 (M19) while Durham seems to have omitted it from her account aside from noting that it was a steelyard weight, not including it with the list of lost statues or among the photographs of the remaining statues from the hoard now held by the British Museum. Lacking the original statue and Musgrave and Moll's illustrations only showing a face and upper chest with no pose or clear distinguishing attributes, scholars seem to be uncertain as to the intended deity, if any. Notes: These Houshold Gods in number 19 with a Medal of Alexander Severus were found at the Devizes An. 1714 and are supposed to have been bury'd there in 234. the Rest for want of Room are placed in Dorset and Hampshires yat are barren of Antiquities; we being unwilling to omit such great Curiosities. London: Sold by H. Moll over-against Devereux-Court in the Strand; Tho. Bowles, Print and Map-Seller near the Chapter-House in St. Paul's Church-Yard, and J. Bowles Print and Map-Seller over-against Stocks-Market. 1724.

Architectural bracket sculpture on the garden summer house 55 yards (50 m) south-west from Copped Hall, aka Copt Hall or Copthall, a Grade II listed country house, 1.5 miles (2 km) west from the town of Epping, Essex, England. The house and its ancillary buildings are within the civil parish of Epping Upland, with the larger part of the gardens to the west, in Waltham Abbey. The present mid-18th-century Georgian hall replaced an earlier Elizabethan hall by Sir Thomas Heneage. It was destroyed by fire in 1917, with it and its gardens suffering further 20th-century destruction and neglect. The property is being restored by The Copped Hall Trust.
