Guillaume Sorel was born on March 25th, 1966 in Cherbourg (France). He
enters the Arts Appliqués of Lyon before arriving at the Beaux Arts to
Paris. He starts his career in the illustration of role-playing games at
Oriflam, Casus Belli or still Descartes. It is moreover there that he
meets Thomas Mosdi with whom he realizes "L'île des morts".
In 1998 he realizes with Mosdi "Amnésia". And for the first time of his
career, and certainly the last one, he leaves the realization of colors
with a third, and not the slightest, Michel Crespin who brings to light
the dark universe of Sorel. At this moment, Sorel shows a radical change
of palette and technique of color, becoming some time later a master of
light following the example of Crespin and the most fashionable
illustrator of its generation.
He meets Mathieu Gallié to the festival of Brussels. Their tastes
converge around the same centres of interest, Walter Scott, Stevenson …
So many elements which meet themselves in Algernon Woodcock's
adventures, a fable halfway between the chronicles of a Scottish country
doctor and the Celtic imagination.
His style is very inspired by the Gothic universe and by the fantasy and
plays on the contrast and the torture of colors.
