Djibouti: Frustration
Djibouti: Frustration
Doctors Without Borders/MSF-USA
In 2010, Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) and VII Photo launched "Starved for Attention," an international multimedia campaign to rewrite the story of childhood malnutrition. Petition signatures were collected from people around the world who joined us in demanding that donor nations stop supplying nutritionally substandard food to malnourished children.
At MSF's clinic in the Balabala district of Djibouti, doctors and nurses scramble to treat a never-ending influx of young malnourished patients. Last year, the clinic treated nearly 1,730 malnourished children under five years old. In this multimedia reportage shot by photojournalist Marcus Bleasdale, hear clinic workers speak about the successes and frustrations of their work.
